How I can help you
After a decade dedicated to cycling I became world champion for the first time. I have gone from a normal kid on a bike to becoming world and Olympic champion, and contrary to what many might think, it did NOT happen because of my talent and physical capabilities.

It happened through a relentless commitment to optimizing every pre-race process. Sounds vague, right? It's about training smarter, resting harder, meticulous planning, finding the right balance and mindset, and constantly seeking improvement. The result is you'll achieve more than you can imagine.

I was never the strongest or most talented rider, but have achieved much more than makes sense by embracing this philosophy of optimizing every aspect of the pre-race process. This makes me very confident that I can help you achieve more than you can imagine as well, and that is exactly what we're going to do!

A little bit more about me

I have 15 years of experience in elite (track) cycling, participated in Olympics twice, participated in 11 world championships and have 5 years of experience riding the Japanese keirin. I also love a challenge. Transitioning from a sprinter to an endurance rider two years ago, I won my first Nation Cup in an endurance event this year. Not because I was the strongest, but because I know how to maximize my chances through meticulous preparation.

My background next to sports

I recently became a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. This means I bring not only a wealth of knowledge in practical cycling experience and performance know-how, but also broad academic knowledge. My strongest points there are the same as in cycling: quality and process management, execution and control, strategics, consulting and coaching, organizational (human) behaviour and planning.

Coen Poot - Physiologist / Scientist

About me

I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Exercise Sciences and I’ve always had a passion for sports. As a scientist I’ve been involved in a number of scientific studies in professional sports, including cycling. During my Master’s degree I started my own business in 2015 in advising, training and helping people reaching their goals in multiple sports. I've specialized in strength/gym training, cycling and speed skating.

Next to that I’m a teacher in anatomy and physiology at the university in Amsterdam. I'm experienced in sharing my knowledge about everything involving movement of the human body. In addition to my work as a teacher at the university, I educate multiple courses for people who want to get a degree in strength/gym training or personal training. I do not only educate, I’m also responsible for writing up to date teaching materials to help innovate with the newest insights in exercise science.

I’ve also been involved during the entire career of Matthijs, advising and helping him reach his ultimate goals of becoming an Olympic- and world champion. It’s been a great pleasure sharing our visions and knowledge with each other and it brought me incredible opportunities to travel the world together, join training camps, and watch various races.

Laurine van Riessen - Support

About me

I have been a professional athlete myself with a 15-year career at a world-class level in both speed skating and track cycling. I have competed in four Olympic Games - two Winter Olympics and two Summer Olympics - as well as numerous world cups, world championships, and national championships. I made the switch from speed skating to track cycling at the age of 27, embarking on an entirely new career and ultimately achieving success on the track.

In addition, I participated in the Japanese keirin circuit for 3 years, gaining valuable experience, a lot of fun and securing some victories during this time.

How I can help you

I will primarily play a supporting role in all aspects of the program. With extensive experience in elite sports, I've trained for various sports and disciplines. I believe in the importance of individualized training schedules tailored to each person's strengths and weaknesses. Starting a new sport later in life required me to reinvent my approach, identifying my strengths and weaknesses to adjust my training regimen accordingly. I hold this belief for you as an athlete too; adapting training schedules can help you maximize your potential and compete for strong results on the track.

I'll be available to assist when coaches are temporarily unavailable, ensuring there's always someone to answer your questions. Additionally, I'm here to discuss various training methods and schedules, offering advice, especially for those starting the sport later in life.

My background next to sports

Alongside my athletic career, I completed a degree in law, specializing in tax law, and graduated in 2021. As my athletic career approached its conclusion, I sought to maintain a connection with sports. Therefore, last year, I pursued and completed another master's degree in International Sports Law. With years of experience in elite sports, I find great satisfaction in staying actively involved in the sports world, and I am dedicated to advancing my career in this dynamic field.
